Childhood obesity and school safety are two of the biggest challenges that our community and nation face.
NUTRITION FACT: The U.S. Surgeon General has called childhood obesity, "the fastest-growing, most threatening disease in America today." There are an estimated 9 million children nationwide who are overweight or obese.
CHF has successfully worked with School Districts to develop a model, Changing School Lunch, to be implemented statewide. We have also initiated a study that prompted the removal of unhealthy a la carte items from Middle School cafeterias.
SAFETY FACT: There are 160,000 students per day that stay home due to fear of attack or intimidation.
CHF has successfully increased positive school climate at our Safe School Ambassadors sites by 63%. We have also provided Intercultural Awareness/Anti-Bias Trainings in High Schools as well as integrating YogaEd into the classroom as a stress reduction program, teaching students to relax and focus.
